Imaging Creation & Deployment Tools for Macs

This was an Apple sponsored all day seminar that focused on the tools that can be used to create images of  Macs. There was also discussion and  live demos of  tools to deploy images. Both InstaDMG and DeployStudio were covered in detail (along with other solutions).

Plan on implementing some of the tools described in the workshop, to help ET with the management of our Public Mac stations.

CERTTS Mobile Web Forms

4th year Med students have the option to log encounters via the web interface rather than logging in a handheld.  With these students having this option, I felt it would be beneficial for them to be able to have the flexibility of logging encounters ‘on the go’ rather than being tied down to a PC.  Since most 4th year students still have their handhelds from their previous year, I felt a Mobile version of the web forms would fit nicely.  With this in mind, I’ve developed Mobile Web Forms.  4th year students can log into this version with their IU credentials.  Once validated, they have the ability to log any web form as they do on a PC.  The CERTTS Mobile Web Forms serve two purposes.  One: give 4th years more flexibility along with using them to test a mobile version.  Two: the 4th year student testing will give us valuable feedback in possibly developing an online CERTTS system for 3rd year students.

Palm OS sync issues with IU Secure

The IU wireless network will be rolling over to a new, more secure wireless network.  The issue I discovered was that older Palm OS devices (some of which are still being used by Med students) will not connect to this new network.  After some research, I’ve compiled the resources to enable these devices to connect.  The files and settings needed are saved to disc, in the event students continue to need this update.  The older wireless network at IU will be removed, forcing all older Palm OS devices to have this update if in fact they want to sync wirelessly.
