ACP PIER Access Changes

Filed under: Current News, Online Resources — cmethod @ 8:11 am

Because it functions better as an updatable resource than a traditional textbook, we have separated ACP’s PIER (Physician Information & Education Resource) from the other textbooks in Stat!Ref.

Beginning June 12, 2007, there will be a new PIER-only version alongside the traditional Stat!Ref resources. To use the new resource, search for ACP PIER in our A-Z list or in our list of online books at the library home page.

To connect directly to ACP’s PIER, please click here.

About the Resource: PIER (Physician Information & Education Resource) is an evidence-based reference from the American College of Physicians that provides topic summaries on the most common problems in internal medicine. A Palm version is also available for IU faculty, staff, & students. For further details and downloading instructions, go to the “IUSM PDA Community” group on Angel and click on “STAT!Ref PIER PDA software instructions”.

Two IU Projects Honored

Filed under: ANGEL, Current News — cmethod @ 6:16 am

Two IU faculty and staff projects were honored at the recent Angel Users Conference, a gathering of over 450 educators on using the ANGEL course management system in May 2007.

Dr. Donald Wong, Indiana University School of Medicine, Dept. of Anatomy Faculty & Course Director, won one of two an “Exemplary ANGEL Course” awards for Neuroscience and Clinical neurology D852. The citation read Dr. Wong’s extensive, robust use of ANGEL in the regular classroom showcases the value ANGEL adds to traditional, face-to-face classes, and as a model for the ANGEL community, earned a 2007 ANGEL IMPACT Award.

All IUSM second year medical students, Ph.D. and doctor of physical therapy students are enrolled in Neuroscience and Clinical Neurology D852 to study neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, brain vasculature, clinical aspects of the nervous system and the anatomy of the brain. In ANGEL, course director Donald Wong found innovative ways to deliver course content that includes elaborate use of audio recordings, animation, photographs and illustrations that capitalize on the easy-to-use content management capabilities

Michael Bangert, Assistant Director of Educational Technology/Lead Developer; Amy Hatfield, Digital Initiatives Librarian/Developer won an award for “Exemplary ANGEL Program” for the Clinical Encounters Real-Time Tracking System.

Indiana University School of Medicine’s CERTTS integrates a PDA-based clinical experience logging system with ANGEL. The first system of its kind in the country, CERTTS adds a 2007 ANGEL IMPACT Award to numerous accolades and recognition of IUSM as a national leader in medical education technology.

CERTTS meets Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) directives and Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) requirements that medical students’ clinical experiences be tracked. ANGEL’s flexibility enabled IUSM to tailor its ANGEL implementation to meet these medical school specific needs. The system records and reports more than 200,000 clinical encounters by 560 IUSM

More details of these and other ANGEL Learning awards are available on the Angel Learning web site, at http://www.angellearning.com/applied/impact/.
